Can jbl tlx 25 be used as studio monitors?
By maximus, 22. August 2018, 08:08.
Your question has a lot of variables...
Let me start by saying that I am not a studio technician or user of studio monitors, just to be clear.
The JBL tlx 25 are relatively large 3-way rear-ported speakers. As such I would never attempt to use them in a near-field setting, as I would expect the driver output to blend relatively poorly at close range. I would also not use them close to a back wall, as the rear port will need som space to breathe.
In any other setting, the remaining question is whether the frequency response is as neutral as one would hope for a studio monitor. I am not familiar with the sound of this speaker, but I do not believe that JBL consumer speakers of this vintage are generally known to be neutral - if someone knows better than me, please correct me.
