The sound on my reciever keeps cutting out

Could be many things. Could be a faulty protection circuit, but it could also be a protection circuit working to protect your receiver from catastrophic failure.

In any case, something in your system is not right. First check that it is not a source component feeding DC into your receiver by attaching another source. Then check that your speakers are not presenting your receiver with a resistance close to a short circuit by attaching another pair.

If none of these experiments affect the behaviour of the receiver, then please take it to a technician.
